Art Stone Memorials, a local business which specialises in creating and renovating graveside memorials across the Midlands, is again offering to tidy up and lay wreaths and flowers on the graves of loved ones whose families cannot visit this Christmas.

Art Stone Memorials, which has a workshop in Drakelow and main showroom in Stapenhill, is part of family-owned Wathall’s and also has a presence in the funeral directors’ branches in Derby, Burton, Allestree, Alvaston, Ashbourne, Borrowash and Chaddesden.

The team first offered the grave visiting service during the pandemic when travel and Christmas get- together plans were disrupted.
Several families have taken up the offer over the past two years and the team are keen to continue the service this year – checking on graves and reporting back any issues, tidying up the area if required and laying wreaths and flowers if families are still unable to visit for whatever reason.
Helen Wathall MBE is the managing director and fifth generation of her family to run Wathall’s funeral directors.
She said: “The Art Stone Memorials team regularly work at local cemeteries, graveyards and crematoria where they install a range of memorials as well as carrying out cleaning, additional inscription and specialist renovation work.

“Using this local knowledge, we decided to offer to check on graves, do a spot of tidying up and lay flowers and wreaths.

“Although Covid restrictions are thankfully behind us, we appreciate that many people, especially those who are older or in poor health, may still not be able to travel this Christmas so we have decided to repeat the offer.”
