Art Stone Memorials are supporting an important local community initiative by agreeing to be a drop-off hub for food and warm clothing.
Lorna Smith, who is a self-employed support worker helping local people in need, set up the ‘Community Cans Can Help’ independent food bank during lockdown.
The continued cost of living crisis has made the initiative even more crucial, and people can collect food parcels, toiletries and warm clothes and blankets at the Meadowside Leisure Centre every Monday and Friday between 11 am and 2.30 pm.
The initiative has won support from several local businesses and groups including Art Stone Memorials where donations can be dropped off during opening hours at its showroom in Stapenhill.
Showroom manager Amy Lamb explained: “Having been a drop off point for donations at the start of the war in Ukraine, we knew that we were geared up to be able to help the food bank in this way.
“Lorna and her band of volunteers are doing an amazing job for our local community, and we were only too pleased to help.”
Lorna said: “The cost of living crisis is taking a heavy toll on people’s mental and physical wellbeing and the food bank and drop in sessions are proving to be a lifeline for many local people facing all sorts of situations and challenges.
“Many others enjoy just coming in for a cup of tea and chat to overcome the loneliness and isolation in their lives.
“We want to do more so I am asking local businesses and individuals for sponsorship so that we can expand the range of support and activities that we can provide people in our local communities.”
